I had the distinct pleasure of knowing Chris as a colleague and fellow Regional Construction Engineer. We would gather twice a year for meetings and I looked forward to hearing what Chris had to say as we went around the table. He would speak with pride of the accomplishments of his Region and the people who worked for him. His message also contained his concern for the dangers and pressures under which his people worked. When Chris felt his staff were being treated poorly by their employer, he never shyed awayed from eloquently expressing his displeasures. Chris delivered his speeches calmly, yet they were filled with emotion, caring and respect for the people with whom he worked. He will be greatly missed.

My last contact with Chris was October 18th at about 2 pm, when the construction office had called me to ask why in the world were we paving the entrance of the Ilion High School on the day they were voting on the school merger. Of course my first response was "we are?"... I immediately rushed to the site and ordered the contractor off the road which took some time, getting the last truck load of asphalt down, rolling it, picking up cones, etc. As I'm standing there wondering why me, along comes the "skinny guy", CN, smiling, I say how was I supposed to know when the polls opened? He asked if we had supplied a detour entrance to the school, which we had, but the folks were still irate. We chatted a bit, about how our work hasn't been as much fun as it used to be, and I told him that I hoped I hadn't let off too much steam at our last meeting, (months earlier when I vented about assignments and upgrades) to which he simply patted my shoulder and shook his head no. As I walked away toward the workmen opening the road I looked back at Chris and said,"where else can you work outside on such a beautiful day"... he smiled and nodded yes... RIP CN the best of the best.
