Obituary of Theresa C. Tropila

Theresa C. Tropila, age 97, of Rome, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2013. Theresa was born in Cambria County, Pennsylvania on September 4, 1915 to the late Konstanty and Alexandrea Butkiewicz. She attended the Rome Schools and graduated from Rome Free Academy. On August 28th, 1937, she married Joseph S. Tropila in Rome. He passed away on April 14th, 2006. Theresa worked for the New York State Mental Health Department at the Rome State School. Theresa was a member of the Senior Citizens and enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle. She was a devout catholic and attended daily mass at St. Peter's Church in Rome. She was a member of the St. Peter's Altar Rosary Society and the Nocturnal Adoration group, as well as several other groups. Theresa is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Richardson of GA; a son and daughter in law, Carl and Dottie Tropila of FL; 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; a sister, Ann Fazio of Rome; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, James in 2000 and several siblings. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 1:15 PM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and a Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Mary's of the Assumption at 2 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
