Obituary of Lyle Francis Stevenson

Lyle F. Stevenson, Sr., age 90, of Rome, passed away peacefully, November 24, 2013, with his family at his side.
He was born August 3, 1923, in Rome, a son of Harold and Vernice Turner Stevenson, and educated in Rome schools.
Lyle was a self-taught electrician, and later became an electrical inspector working many years for the New York Board of Fire Underwriters, the Middle Department Electrical Inspection Agency, and Commonwealth Electrical Inspection Service. He retired in June 2002, but being an active man with a zest for life returned to work for something to do.
He enjoyed designing and crafting household items, such as, towel caddies, pill holders and awnings; to name a few.
Lyle also enjoyed spending time writing poetry. He was honored as a "Distinguished Citizen" by the New York State Assembly in June of 2004, for his poem "The Essence of Time" which was donated to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Library in Hyde Park, New York.
Lyle is survived by a son and daughter in law, Lyle, Jr. and Nelda Stevenson of Hobart, IN; four daughters and three sons in law, Patty MacFarlane (and Michael Prather, dec.) of Arvada, CO, Linda and David Dishlacoff of Camden, Carol and Steve Arbes of Atlanta, GA, and Barbara and William Carey Jr. of Camden; a sister, Elizabeth Tysinski of Rome; personal friend, Marlene Miller of Rome; 23 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Stevenson, brothers, Harold and Jack Stevenson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:15 PM, from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and a Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 PM at St Mary of the Assumption Church. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday 4 to 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or JDRF Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
