Obituary of Paul V. Thompson

Paul V. Thompson, age 84, of the Town of Lee, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2019.
He was born July 22, 1934, in Altoona, PA, a son of the late Eugene and Edith Leonard Thompson, and graduated from Hollidaysburg High School in 1952. Paul was united in marriage to the former Marian Moyer, on May 8, 1954, at St. Patrick's church in Newry, PA. He was supervisor in Air Traffic Control for the FAA at Griffiss Air Force Base. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1952-56. He was a member of St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center and Lee American Legion Post 1794.
Paul was a devoted Husband and Father. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Paul had a kind heart towards animals and often volunteered in Rome Humane Society activities. He was considered by some to be a Master Chef when it came to cooking Pizza and Peanut Butter cookies. To his grandchildren he was affectionately known as "Pappy Good Cookie"
Paul is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marian; a daughter, Margaret Thompson of Rome; sons and daughters in law, Michael and Julie Thompson of Cicero, Christopher and Theresa Thompson of Lee Center, Gregory and Dawn Thompson of Rome, Vincent and De'La Thompson of Big Foot, TX, and Thomas Thompson and Carolyn Gherardi of Southport NC; sisters and brother in law, Phyllis Barnes of Altoona, PA, and Rita and Robert Rightnour of Roaring Spring, PA; brothers and sisters in law, Frank and Charlene Thompson of Altoona, PA, Joseph and Linda Thompson of Morrisville, PA, Robert and Eleanor Thompson of Selinsgrove, PA, and Donald and Diane Thompson of Bensalem, PA; 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by four brothers, Raymond, Eugene, Jake and James Thompson, a sister Audrey Hofer and a grandson, Army Spec. Blair Thompson.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Robert L. Kelly, at 11:00 AM, at St. Joseph's Church in Lee Center. Military Honors will be performed at St. Joseph's Church following the Mass.
Burial will be in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday 4 to 7 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Rome.
