Obituary of Leo L. Barton

Leo L. "Putt" Barton, Jr., age 68, of Lee Center, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2012.
He was born on June 24, 1944, in Rome, a son of the late Leo L. and Shirley E. Nichols Barton. He attended and graduated from Rome Free Academy.
Leo became a welder and work at Pettibone, Rome Cable and also was a fabricator with Richie Evans Racing. He was a Life Member of the Rome Elks and was the Exalted Ruler from 1984-1985. Leo also belonged to the Sons of the American Legion Lee Squadron 1794. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Leo is survived by three sisters and two brothers in law, Lynette Martin and her companion, Richard Gumaer of Sparrowbush, NY, Naomi and Joseph Poccairi of Nashua, NH, and Renee and Hugh Aikens of Lee Center; nieces and nephews, Douglas and Darren Martin, Marnie and Stacy Pocchairi, and Michael Aikens; his companion Bernadette Gengler and her children, Elizabeth, Teri, and Bryan Schneider; and his faithful dog, Ginger. He was predeceased by a nephew, Hugh Aikens III and a brother in law, Thomas Martin.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 11 at Noon at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 11 AM to Noon, prior to the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lee Center Vol. Fire Department and/or the Sons of the American Legion Lee Squadron 1794 Scholarship Fund.
