Obituary of Brian A. Underwood
Please share a memory of Brian to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Brian A. Underwood, age 67, of Rome, passed into the hands of the Lord, after a brief illness, on April 2, 2010, surrounded by his loving family, in the comfort of his home.
He was born February 10, 1943, in Rome, a son of William J. and Helen Mroz Underwood, and educated in Rome schools. Brian was united in marriage to the former Linda Backer, on October 12, 1968, in Rome. He worked as a welder at O. W. Hubbell and Sons, for 20 years, and later, other jobs in the area. His most recent and favorite employment was at the Lake Delta State Park. He was a member of the Henry P. Smith Post 24, American Legion, and the Marine Corps League.
Brian proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, serving from 1961-1966. He served with the 2nd Marine Division in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1961, and received the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Brian was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather, and was lovingly called "Pop". He loved riding his Goldwing motorcycle and was proud of his trip to Alaska in 1995. He rode 17, 000 miles in 33 days and took many breath taking pictures of his adventure.
