Obituary of Frederick J. Conover

Frederick J. (Fred) Conover, age 83, of Rome, passed away, with his family at his side, on April 17, 2010, at Rome Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 6, 1926, in Floyd, a son of Frank and Emma Boss Conover and educated in Holland Patent schools. Fred was united in marriage to the former Mary C. Emeterio, on May 10, 1948, in the Church of St. John the Baptist. He was the former owner and operator of B & F Collision and Fred's Body Shop of Rome. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, and served in the European and Middle Eastern Theater during WW II.
Fred loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He also was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing at his camp on Tug Hill. He was a president of the Auto Body Shop Association of Rome and a member of the Jack McDonald Hunting Club of Tug Hill.
Fred is survived by his wife, Mary Constance; a daughter and son in law, Mary Ann and Howard Ludtke; four sons and daughters in law, Frederick V. and Tina Conover, Ronald F. and Kathy Conover, William (Bill) and Mary Jo Conover, and Frank J. and Linda Conover; a sister, Mildred (Millie) Miller; three brothers, Robert (Bob) and Marshall (Mo) Conover and Beryl (Tom) Campbell; grandchildren, Andrea, Matthew, David, Danielle, Eric, Kelly, Kevin, Kyle and Steven; and great grandchildren, Grace, James and Lillian Rose. He was predeceased by sisters, Katherine (Kate) Seelman, Agnes (Connie) Sprague, Irene Still and Virginia (Ginger) Conover, and brothers, Kenneth and Roy Conover.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Tuesday, From 4 to 7 PM.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of Rome Memorial Hospital and Betsy Ross Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, for care and compassion extended to Fred, and a special and sincere thanks to Linda Conover for her time and dedication in caring for Fred.
