Obituary of Stanley Nowakowski

Stan Nowakowski of Rome, entered into eternal peace on Sunday, August 29, 2010.
He was born in Buffalo, NY, on July 28, 1920, a son of Ludurg Nowakowski and Maryanna Hartel. Stan attended Buffalo schools. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for 20 years and was a World War II veteran. During a mission over Europe, his plane was shot down and he became a POW for 2 years. After his release and discharge, he received the Purple Heart and was awarded other Service Medals. After retirng from the U.S. Air Force, Stan became a letter carrier for the Rome Post Office, retiring in 1982.
On April 4, 1972, Stan was united in marriage to Alice Conover DePasquale in Niagara, NY. He was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration, a member of the Rome VFW Post 2246, Henry P. Smith Post 24, American Legion, an the Association of the Purple Heart.
Stan is survived by his loving wife, Alice; stepchildren, Patricia (Terry) Taylor of Belllingham, WA; sons, Terry (Patty) DePasquale of Lynden, WA, Thomas (Terry) DePasquale of Rome, Patrick (Ann) DePasquale of Lynwood, WA and Ronny(Trudy) DePasquale of Murrieta, CA; and 9 step grandchildren. Also 2 favorite nieces, Beatrice Donovan and Barbra Wenk, and other nieces and nephews, and a special God son, Chris Donovan of Lockport, NY. He was predeceased by 2 brothers, Joseph and Henry and 3 sisters, Sophie, Bertha and Lottie and his special canine buddy, Pepi.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, family and numerous friends.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at 10:30 AM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, followed by full Military Honors and burial in Evergreen Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday 5 to 8 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rome Humane Society.
