Elizabeth "Betty" A. Libby, age 79, of Town of Lee, passed away Friday, September 24, 2010, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
She was born September 7, 1931, in York, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Rowland W. and Elizabeth C. Burgesser Loveland. Betty was united in marriage to Ralph H. Liddy on July 9, 1949, in Oceanside, NY; he died July 29, 2005. She was a faithful member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Betty was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and often fulfilled the role as neighborhood babysitter. She enjoyed knitting and was known for the hats, mittens and socks she knitted for her family and friends. She was a true animal lover and nursed many injured animals and birds back to health over the years. Betty's other passion was walking, especially with her special neighborhood friend, Judith Kahofer.
Betty is survived by four sons and three daughters in law, Ralph W. and Dorothy Libby of Amityville, L.I., Dan and Mary Ann Libby of Floyd, Mark Libby of Wasilla, AK, and Scott and Lynette Libby of Floyd; two sisters, Pat Cosimano and Linda Karl, both of Pennsylvania; and a sister in law, Rita Loveland of Pennsylvania; 19 Grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Steven Libby in 1991.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM at Evergreen Cemetery, Town of Lee. There are no calling hours.
