In a way, we really lost Mom years ago when her memory failed. Please let me remind you of our Mom as we knew her for most of our lives.
With a high school education, Mom became the coordinator of Alcoa's sales force for the entire Eastern seaboard. When I had to choose whether to continue graduate school after a relocation or take a job offer, I asked her advice. She told me to take the job, and 31 years later I am still there doing something I love. I'm not sure I ever thanked her for that. Thanks, Mom.
As hard as she worked at her job, she worked harder at home. Bud, Christal, and I could tell you what a cleaning fiend Mom was. The weekly dusting. Woe be it to any of us who tried to scoot that dust rag in and out around her extensive cup and saucer collection instead of moving them all. We NEVER got away with that. And, how we dreaded Spring Cleaning - we had to tear that house apart, put it back together, and then wash every cup and saucer! In later years, she and Dad would come to North Carolina for a visit and she would clean my house from top to bottom, drafting Dad in the work of course. Once, I cleaned it pretty well on my own, and when my children came home from school, they were sure that Grandma was hiding somewhere. I took that as a great compliment.
Instead of the Mom-directed cleaning on Oriskany Rd, we would have much preferred playing baseball in the Rueger's yard, or playing with Barbie dolls with Dorothea and Christine (Bud - not so much). The last time Mom asked me where Dad was, and I explained again, that we lost him last December, I got a totally new response. She said, "Well, I guess that's the end of the camp." I can only guess she was remembering our yearly vacations on 4th lake with Aunt Emily and Uncle Bob and our cousins. Thank you, Mom, Dad, family, and friends, for a priceless childhood.
Mom's favorite flower was the gardenia. I believe it was because it was the first corsage Dad gave her. In North Carolina, I planted a gardenia in the yard. Surprisingly, for me, it thrived. When I proudly showed it to Mom, she laughed and told me it was a camellia. At the time, I could almost hear my Godmother, Aunt Frances chuckling also.
I would like to express our deepest gratitude to you for treating Mom with respect while answering the same questions over and over. May God bless you.
Goodnight, Mom. I know you now have that keen mind back. More importantly, you are again with your Sweetheart. Much love to you both.

Bud, Mary & Christal, We are so sorry about Aunt Julia's passing. We loved her dearly. We will never forget all the "happy" visits around her round oak table. She was a delight to visit with. Aunt Julie and Uncle Larry were a very special couple and will always and forever be missed.
