Obituary of William B. Reed

William "Pap" B. Reed Westmoreland William "Pap' B. Reed, age 71, of Westmoreland, passed away June 8, 2011, at his home after a brief illness. He was born October 28, 1939, in Milroy, PA, a son of LeRoy and Mildred Davidson Reed, and educated in Pennsylvania schools. "Pap" was united in marriage to the former Ernestine Megerell on April 25, 1964, at Griffiss Air Force Base; she died August 24, 2007. He proudly served twenty years in the United States Air Force, and served in Vietnam, retiring in 1980. He later worked for U. S. Airways in Syracuse. "Pap" was an avid golfer and NASCAR fan. He was a member of the Clark Mills American Legion Post #26, Air Force Sergeants Association and a former member of the Westmoreland Fire Department. "Pap" is survived by five daughters and two sons in law, Kimberly Reed and Eric Brandon of Charlotte, NC, Karen Paine and Blair Smith of Westmoreland, Laurann and Russell McBride of Boise, ID, Patricia and John Ott of Camden, and Penny Genther of Westmoreland; a son and daughter in law, Alan and Terri Genther of Westmoreland; a brother and sister in law, Gary and Betty Reed of Reedsville, PA; special friends, James Wharram, Christine and Scott Vollmer, Bernie Lucas, Bob Walsh and the "lunch buddies" at Knuckleheads Brewhouse; 19 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Harry Reed. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 3:00 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Rome. Burial will be in Lee State Cemetery, Town of Lee. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home Saturday 12 to 3 PM, prior to the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westmoreland Fire Department or Central Oneida County Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
