Jeanne McKay Volk, age 88, of Rome, passed away June 12, 2011, after a long illness.
She was born on September 12, 1922, in Flint, Michigan, a daughter of Edwin J. and M. Ruth O'Connor McKay. She Graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1940. Jeanne was united in marriage to Kenneth R. Volk on May 22, 1945, in San Bernardino, CA; he died October 2, 1998. She retired from John Joy School in 1988 after 20 years of service as a school monitor. She was of the Catholic Faith.
Jeanne is survived by three daughters and sons in law, Sheila and Robert Wentworth of Sandwich, MA, Barbara and Donald Page of Leland, NC, and Marcia and Paul Marcellus of Rome; a son, Kenneth R. Volk, Jr. of Sangar, TX; three grandchildren, Courtney Jeanne Sobrado, Jenna Catherine Marcellus and Emily Mary Volk. She was predeceased by a brother, Edwin J. McKay, Jr.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM, at St. Peter's Church. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
There are no calling hours.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of 3 North at Rome Memorial Hospital and Dr. Tallindini, for their care compassion and friendship extended to Jeanne during her illness.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation or St. Peter's Church Memorial Fund.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
