Obituary of Barbara M. Washburn

Barbara M. Washburn, age 86, of Rome, passed away peacefully September 15, 2011, with her family at her side. She was born, October 27, 1924, in Rome, a daughter of Willard and Ruth Sturdevant Miller, and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1942. Barb was united in marriage to Warren A. Washburn on August 8, 1944, in Zion Episcopal Church; he died December 5, 2005. She was a member of Zion Episcopal Church and St. Mary's Guild. Barb was a very loving and social person. She enjoyed the many friends she made while volunteering at church and other functions. She would be seen every day with her husband, visiting people at their homes or enjoying their company at the coffee shop. Barb is survived by three sons and daughters in law, Dr. Donald and Martha Washburn of Rome, Todd and Kimberly Washburn of Raleigh, NC, and Neil and Julie Washburn of Naperville, IL; four grandchildren, Jonathan, Luke, Caitlin and Sara Washburn. She was predeceased by two brothers, Donald and Robert Washburn. The funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at the Zion Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery. There are no calling hours. The family wishes to sincerely thank the Staff at Terrace at Woodlands for their care, compassion and friendship extended to Barb during her illness. Memorial contributions may be made to the Zion Episcopal Church Memorial Fund or Jervis Public Library. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
