Obituary of Joseph P. Maxim

Joseph P. Maxim, age 86, of Rome, went home to be with the Lord, peacefully, with his loving life companion, Carol, and family at his side.
He was born in Duryea, PA, a son of Dominick and Agnes Rice Maxim, and educated in Duryea, PA schools. Joe was employed as a flight supervisor at Griffiss Air Force Base, retiring after 38 years of service. He faithfully and proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a devoted parishioner and usher at the Church of St. John the Baptist. He was a member of the Henry P. Smith Post #24, American Legion, past commander of the Western Post, American Legion, Stanwix Men's Club, and the Ukrainian Club.
Joe loved classic country music, concerts, driving his Cadillac, traveling and collecting old license plates. He also enjoyed the great times and many friends he made while training horses at Vernon Downs
Joe is survived by his loving life companion, Carol; two daughters and sons in law, Barbara Ann Maxim and Daniel Augustine of Virginia Beach, VA, and Kathleen Maxim (Madonia) and Stanley Phillips of Rochester; Carol's children who Joe treated as his own, Robin Sessions and Bernard McCaffrey of Rome, Ricky Sessions of Rome, Renita Sessions (Evans) and Fred Williams of San Antonio, TX, and Jeffrey Sessions of Rome; two sisters, Rochelle Glover of New York City, and Bette Whalen of Garden City, NY; grandchildren, Jim and Joey Augustine of Virginia Beach, VA, Sheri Waite of Virginia Beach, VA, Theresa Madonia of Charlotte, NC, Danielle Madonia of Orlando, FL, Irelyn and Tristan Phillips of Rochester, Mindy Aiello of Rome, Tonya D'Amore of Rome, Jessy Evans of Westernville, Corie Sessions of Masschusetts, and Ian and Kaitlyn Williams of San Antonio, TX; great grandchildren, Shea, Camden, Hunter and Ali Augustine, Haylie and Bradley Waite, Anthony, Andrew and Justin Aiello, Andrew, Ashley, Michael, Sophia and Nicholas D'Amore. He was predeceased by a special grandson, Jeremy Evans and a brother and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9:45 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and at 10:30 AM at the Church of St. John the Baptist. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Wednesday 4 to 7 PM
