Obituary of Robert Ellis Poole
Robert Ellis Poole, age 88, of Taberg, passed away peacefully at Rome Memorial Hospital, November 10, 2011, with his loving family at his side.
He was born October 13, 1923, in Sandy Creek, NY, a son of Rennie and Mable S. Ellis Poole, and educated in Sandy Creek schools. Robert was united in marriage to the former Lefa J. Arnold, in 1946, in Fulton, NY. He was employed at the Rome DSO, retiring in1979 and later worked as a Rome City School District crossing guard for 25 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps for 11 years. He served during WW II, and served in the Normandy Invasion and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the VFW Rome Post #2246.
Robert loved his family and served his Country proudly. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Robert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lefa; a daughter and son in law, Diana J. and Roger DeGasto of Dallas, GA; a son, Ronald Ellis Poole of Rome; a brother and sister in law, Lester and Dorothy Poole of Pulaski, NY; grandchildren, Shawna DeGasto, Roger DeGasto II, Ronald E. Poole II, Jeremy Poole and Jamie Poole; and 10 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Poole and a grandchild, Jordan Poole.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, Taberg.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Monday 1 to 2 PM prior to the funeral service.
