Obituary of Kay Konono

Kay J. Konono, age 86, of Rome, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2019, at Rome Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 27, 1933, in Knoxboro, NY, a daughter of the late Herbert and Adelaide Van Evera Strong, and graduated from Madison Central School.  Kay was united in marriage to Kasmer Konono, on December 9, 1955, in Floyd; he died May 21, 1982.  She worked for many years as a sales clerk and later as an employee trainer at the former Neisner’s and McCrory’s Department Stores.  She formerly was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Rome.

Kay is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Kay and Robert Bambury of Rome, and Nancy and Michael Burke of Georgia; a sister, Barbara Mennig of Munnsville; three brothers and two sisters in law, Robert “Joe” and Lori Strong of Oneida, William “Tony” Strong of Oriskany Falls, and Warner “Horty” and Mary Strong of Florida; 5 grandchildren, Robert Jr, Kathryn, Alicia, Casey and Donna; seven great grandchildren, Lana, Robbie, Casey Jr, Benjamin, Payton, Arthur and Maya; several nieces and nephews; and her friends at The Grand at Rome.  She was predeceased by sisters, Charlotte, Charlene, Elsie, Phyllis Strong; and brothers, Charles, Carleton, Sheldon, Theodore, Gary, Doug, Dickey, Keith, Gilbert and Guilford.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 4:00 PM, at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.  Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
