Genevieve A. Vernold
Genevieve A. Vernold, age 90, of Ava, died peacefully on October 14, 2020.
She was born July 21, 1930, in Rome a daughter of the late Albert and Victoria Funkett Stosal, and graduated from West Leyden High School in 1948. Genevieve was united in marriage to Richard Vernold on March 10, 1951, in Bartlette, NY; he died on December 13, 2001. She retired from the U.S. postal Service in Ava, after 30 years of service. She was a former member of St. Mary’s Church in West Leyden.
Gen loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She never missed a game or event and always had her instant Polaroid camera at the ready. She was a great cook and her spaghetti sauce was highly coveted. She found great pleasure in her flower garden, vegetable garden, feeding her wild birds and sitting at a slot machine (and please do not bother her!)
Genevieve is survived by two daughters, Cooky and Bob Pfendler of Ava, and Renee and Tim Charbonneau of Cohoes; a daughter in law, Heidi Vernold; a sister and brother in law, Mary and Bob Kholi of Deltona, FL; grandchildren, Erica Miller, Sam Vernold, Shantel Pfendler and Shayla Pfendler; and great grandsons, Jackson and Hunter Miller. She was predeceased by a son, Richard Vernold; sisters, Anna Kapinos, Sophie Burke, Betty Stosal, and Rose Vernold; brothers, Frank Stosal, Albert Stosal, Joseph Stosal, John Stosal and Stanley Stosal.
The funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Monday 12 Noon to 2 PM, prior to the funeral service. Those attending are required to wear a face covering and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Rome.
