Obituary of Gregory Wencel Bereza
Gregory Wencel Bereza, of Rome, passed away on November 24, 2020 after a brief illness.
Greg was born July 24th 1947 in Ilion, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, Wencel W. Bereza and Muriel Beer Bereza. Greg was a great guy who always had a smile on his face and was always ready for a good time! In June of 1965, Greg graduated from Rome Free Academy then attended Oklahoma State University. Two years later, he was drafted and spent Aug. ’68 to Aug 69’ in Vietnam. While on duty, he became a sergeant and earned a Purple Heart for being wounded during duty. Greg was united in marriage to the former Margaret Mary Andrewski, on January 28, 1972, in Rome. He was Honorably Discharged February 1974. Greg worked at Carrier Air Conditioning in Syracuse, NY for over 30 years. During that time, he became an avid golfer with a passion and love for the game. He made three career hole in ones, two while playing golf with his son Greg, one at Crestwood Golf course on the 181 yard 8th hole and the other at Due Process Stable Golf Club’s 200 yard 15th hole in Colts Neck, NJ. He won several tournaments and long drive competitions throughout his years of golfing.
He loved to play guitar and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He loved the outdoors, whether it be canoeing or taking a road trip with his wife to visit a famous site and go for a hike. Greg always enjoyed the adventure.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Andrewski Bereza, who resides in Rome; his son, Gregory, daughter in law, Ellen and his grandchildren, Juliana and Cash; his sister, Joyce Fowler, and four nephews, Jim, Tim, Keith and Chris; his brother, Wencel Bereza; and nephew, Sean and niece, Wendy; his brother and sister in law, John and Dawn Bereza; and two nephews, Johnny and Jeremy. He will be deeply missed, perhaps mostly by his Siamese cat, Angel, who sat on his lap every night. God bless Dad! We love you!
No services will be held at this time. A Memorial will be held in the spring with family and friends to celebrate Greg’s life.
