Ethel E. (Taylor) Alexander, 83, of Floyd, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Hospital, with her loving family by her side.

Born in Utica, on July 30, 1938, she was the daughter of Hyzer D. and Bertha (Albison) Taylor.

She attended Whitesboro Central School and was united in marriage with Jerome E. Alexander on October 27, 1956.  They celebrated 61 years of marriage before his death in 2018.

Ethel enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, and camping. She was a charter member of the Floyd Volunteer Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. She was previously employed by the Eastern Star Home and worked alongside her stepmother, Sophie, in the kitchen. She was a caregiver and housekeeper to many elderlies in the community and provided daycare for neighborhood children.

She was a survivor of childhood polio and, at the age of 16 upon the death of her mother, Ethel left school to care for her six siblings.  She was the heart of her family. She will be remembered as the most loving, selfless, caring, kind, gentle, and forgiving person.

She is survived by her daughters, Christine (Barry) Jennison, Shari (Very Reverend Lucian) Urbaniak; her son, Jerome Alexander Jr. (Sandra Farney); and her grandchildren, Ryan Jennison, Jamie (Nicholaus) Jennison-Miller, Kristy (Richard) Rintrona, Lindsay (Michael) Anile, Nolan, Collin, and Alivia Alexander. She was Gigi to her great grandchildren; Stella, Liliya, Lena, Carmine, Santino, and Renata. She is also survived by her brother, Brian (Shirley) Taylor; sisters-in-law, Shelva and Kathy Taylor; several cherished nieces and nephews; and a special family friend, Tanya. She is predeceased by her parents, Hyzer and Bertha; her stepmother, Sophie Phelps; her sister, Janice St. Germaine; and her brothers, William, Jack, Hyzer, and David.

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Floyd Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Floyd Volunteer Fire Department.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
