Obituary of Vincent Steven McEvoy

Please share a memory of Vincent to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Vincent Steven McEvoy, 78, of Rome, passed away on Thursday, March 10th, 2022.

Vincent was born on June 17th, 1943 in Hackensack New Jersey to Vincent and Margaret McEvoy.

Vincent attended the University of Scranton where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology in 1965. He continued his education, earning a Master’s Degree in Child Psychology at St. John’s University in 1968. Vincent enlisted in the United States Army in 1968.

He was a decorated Veteran of the Vietnam War, receiving the Purple Heart for his service. After his service, Vincent worked for the Rome City School District as a School Psychologist until his retirement in 1998. He was a staunch advocate for the underserved population of students with special needs.

Besides his resolute love and support of his family and furry friends, Vincent had three passions in his life: reading, film, and music. He said many times to his daughter, “never feel guilty about buying a book.” Vincent frequented many local book sales and volunteered his time at the Dunham Public Library. He was the “Phone a Friend” on anything movie-related from Art Director to Wrangler. While Classical music had a special place in his heart, Vincent's interests ran the gamut from the Blues to Zydeco.

Vincent was predeceased by his wife, Juanita Marie McEvoy, and his father, Vincent Paul McEvoy.

Vincent is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Courtney and Paul Huf of Rome; his mother, Margaret Anne McEvoy of Milford, CT; his sister Anne Theodore-Howard also of Milford CT; and his nieces Amanda, Samantha, and Cassandra. He is also survived by his dear friends, Kathleen Howlett, Karen Spindler, Thomas Thompson, and Mary Turner.
