John F. (Jack) Hoyt, Sr., age 74, passed away unexpectedly on January 30, 2014 at Rome Memorial Hospital.
John was born in Ithaca, NY on April 18, 1939 to the late Clarence N. and Ina Walle Hoyt. He attended school in Van Etten, NY. On August 6, 1966, he married the former Roseann Spinelli at St. Mary's Church in Rome. John worked as an electrical engineer at Rome Lab for over 30 years.
John had many hobbies, talents and interests, especially magic. He belonged to the International Brotherhood of Magicians (IBM Ring 101), and was a member of the Camden Rod and Gun Club.
John is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Roseann; a son and daughter in law, John Jr. and Suzanne Hoyt of Blossvale; two brothers and sisters in law, Bruce and Sally Hoyt of Newfield, NY and Robert and Bonnie Hoyt of FL; a very special K-9 companion, Callahan; and many beloved friends.
The family would like to thank the staff in the Rome Hospital ER Department for their tireless efforts, care, and compassion.
Funeral services will be held on Monday at 6 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Rome Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 6, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society, or to The Lucy House, 301 W. Bloomfield Street, Rome, NY 13440.
