I got to know Bill from my years as a chamber CEO in western New York. We'd see each other at state chamber conferences. Occasionally we would talk on the phone about chamber issues. He was a true professional dedicated to the chamber and it's role in the community. I left New York for California in 2004, but I will never forget his professionalism for the ten years we were colleagues.

I had the pleasure of growing up on Floyd Ave. and being one of Bill’s first friends. We enjoyed a great childhood growing up together. He was always a true friend. I will always miss him and when I think of him will smile. My condolences to the entire family.

I also knew Bill from our RFA years and graduated with him with the class of 1967 .
He always had time for you no matter where he was or what he was doing. He always greeted you with a smile and a firm handshake.
He had saved a picture for me from our yearbook and called me to pick it up a couple of weeks before he retired. I went down to his office .
He greeted you with a smile and firm handshake.
He still had that same smile and handshake that I've known for over 50 years ! You would never know that he was sick .
Billy you will be missed by all.

I am so sorry to hear this news and my heart breaks for you, Luba, your family, the Rome community, and the entire Mohawk Valley. Bill was such a great man and I am so grateful I had the opportunity to know him through my participation in the Rome Area Chamber and the Chamber Alliance. He was always kind, generous, thoughtful, encouraging, and a gentleman. Truly a one-of-a-kind human being. May you find peace in the time that you had with him and the wonderful memories you created. Rest in Peace, Bill, heaven is blessed to have you. ~Michele Smith

I had the great pleasure to know Bill at RFA as a member of the class of 1967. Many years later, after moving back to Rome in the 90s, I worked with him putting together the Daily Sentinel’s Chamber of Commerce special section each year. I always looked forward to his visits with his easy, friendly personality and quick smile. He was a gentle, kind man.
Goodbye Big Daddy!

Dear Luba and Family,
Our deepest condolences and our prayers are with you all. Bill was a true gentleman, loving husband, and one of Rome's greatest civic leaders. We thoroughly enjoyed the years getting to know you both while Clark was working with him as a Chamber Board member and Merry as Director of the Historical Society. He always had a smile, enjoyed being with people, and was a friend to everyone. We will miss him and memories of him will last a lifetime.
Love,
Clark and Merry Speicher

Deepest sympathy to Luba and family. First met Bill at Triangle Park many years ago with all the gang that hung there from nearby neighborhoods. In later years he was always available for advice and anything he and the Chamber could do for The Rome Sports Hall of Fame and Museum. Bill was an icon and devoted his life to the City of Rome and its businesses. He will be greatly missed.
