Obituary of Harley A. Furney
Harley Admond Furney, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on February 21, 2023 embraced by the love of his family. He was the son of Carl and Mabel (Wolf) Furney, born on January 25, 1938 in Steuben, NY and was educated in Holland Patent Schools from which he graduated salutatorian of his class. On May 29, 1959 he was united in marriage to Beverly Prosser in Westernville Presbyterian Church. This was a loving union lasting nearly 60 years upon the death of Beverly on February 9, 2019.
Through example, he instilled the values of hard work, compassion, and generosity in his family and friends. In 1969 he established Harley’s Tavern on Stokes Corners in the Town of Lee. The family ran the Tavern for over 40 years. The many stories of Harley’s Tavern will be a source of pride for his family and others in remembrance of his character.
Following his passion of being a mechanic, Harley established Harley’s Auto Sales which provided service to many loyal customers over the years.
Harley enjoyed motorcycles, boats, restoring classic cars, NASCAR, and riding his tractor. He and Beverly enjoyed going to classic car shows with their son Kevin and were members of the Tappet Twirlers Car Club. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren. You could often see him giving rides on his tractor, teaching them how to drive, watching their sporting events and teaching them how to fix anything that was broken. Memories they will cherish.
Harley's faith was an integral part of his life. He was a dedicated member and trustee of the Westernville Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his loving sons, Daniel (Kim) Furney of Lee, and James (Kerry) Furney of Rome; daughter, Tracy (Roy) Clark of Rome; grandchildren, Alexandra, Dylan, Justin, Ethan, and Julianne; his sister-in-law, Rebecca Shaddon of Rome; and a niece, Julie Van Slyke.
