Obituary of James N. Crawford

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

James “Jim” N. Crawford, 74, of Rome, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2023, at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare Center, with his family by his side.

He was born November 23, 1948, in Rome, a son of the late Samuel and Doris McCall Crawford, and graduated from Rome Free Academy.  Jim was united in marriage to the former Sandra Samson, on March 10, 1979, in St. Peter’s Church. He drove Tractor Trailer for Syracuse Castings for many years until his retirement.  He served in the U.S. Navy.

Jim loved his time with family and friends, spending time in his garage, and camping in the summer. He was happiest when he had a project to work on and was building something. Jim could make anyone laugh and his sense of humor will always be remembered.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sandra; two daughters, Michelle and Danielle Crawford, both of Rome; a sister, Phyllis Crawford of Rome; a brother and sister-in-law, Samuel and Rita Crawford of Lake Havasu, AZ; a sister-in-law, Susan Samson of Albany; and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by a sister, Sandra Edinger.

The funeral service will be held Thursday at 4:00 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.  Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Thursday from 2 to 4 PM.
