Obituary of Nancy J. VanEtten
Nancy J. VanEtten, age 71, of Rome, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on May 1, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Nancy was born in Rome on June 27, 1951 to the late James and Doris McLaughlin Coleman. She graduated from RFA and earned her associate’s degree from MVCC. On October 23, 1981, she was united in marriage to Edward VanEtten. Nancy worked for many years for Catholic Charities, and later, retired from the Rome City School District in 2016.
Nancy enjoyed the simple things in life. She also enjoyed being with her family and taking family vacations.
Nancy is survived by her loving husband, Ed; her daughter, Danielle (Jason) Silipo of Rome; her sons, Everett (Jessica) Smith, and Todd (Heather) VanEtten both of Rome; her grandchildren, Robert, Jason Jr., Amber, Alex, Madelyn, Cameron, and Vincent; her great grandchildren, Lila and Kairo; her sisters, Elaine Coleman, Mary Coleman, and Colleene (Bob) Hurst; her brother, David Coleman; her sister in law, Vivian (Phil) Roman; her brother in law, Gene (Marie) VanEtten; her beloved K-9 companion, Maggie; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters, Marlene Faroni and Peggy Sizemore; and her brothers, James Coleman Jr. and Patrick Coleman.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 6th, at 9 AM, at St. Peter’s Church. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery at a later date.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
