Obituary of Theodore D. Mooney
Theodore “Ted” D. Mooney, age 78, of Rome, passed away peacefully at home on April 26, 2023.
Ted was born in Rome on March 20, 1945, to the late Winefred and Jennie Farino Mooney. Ted was a graduate from RFA of the class of 1965. On October 18, 1969, he was united in marriage to the former Suzanne Ettinger; a blessed union of nearly 53 years until her passing on June 13, 2022.
Ted held many jobs throughout his life such as working for Sears, UCP, working as a Craps dealer at the Turning Stone Casino, and his favorite job was driving for Birnie Bus. Ted really enjoyed driving the kids and going on different field trips. Ted enjoyed watching NHR drag racing and participating in the local drag races himself with his ’78 Camaro. He was an outdoorsman and loved to fish, boat, and just lounge near the pool. He bowled in his early years and played the accordion. Ted enjoyed collecting silver dollars and Schultz Dooley steins.
Ted is survived by his son, Kevin (Brenda) Mooney of Frankfort; his daughters, Mary Beth (Bernadette Gregory) Mooney of Rome, and Cortney (Christopher) Dutcher of Rome; eight grandchildren, Jordan, Ayden, Tyler, Kiley, Jesse, Lindsey, Meghan, and Juliette; a great granddaughter, Aubriiellah; a brother, Joseph (Joann) Mooney; a sister-in-law, Karen Mooney; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Richard Mooney.
Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
