Obituary of Michelina Summa
Michelina (Mickey) Summa, age 93, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2023.
Mickey was born in Rome on April 27, 1930 to the late Agostino and Madeline D'Esculapio DiGustini. She graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1948. On November 11, 1950 she was united in marriage to James Summa, a union of 44 years until his passing on May 26, 1994. She was a lifelong parishioner of St. John the Baptist Church.
Mickey was a beloved mother, grandmother, Nonni, sister, aunt and friend and leaves a legacy of love, artistry, and wisdom. She was a much-loved aid at Ridge Mills School for 18 years.
Mickey is survived by her daughter Deborah Summa of New Hartford; son James Summa of Palm Springs, CA; grandchildren, Jacqueline Blaszczak (John Geissinger) of New Hartford and Mallory Blaszczak of Chicago, IL. She also leaves behind her cherished great grandchildren, Parker, Jack, Chloe, and Arielle all of New Hartford; her sisters Carrie Bonanza, Mary (Bill) Lounello; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her sisters, Theresa Catalano, Caroline DelPico and Helen Lombino; brothers Louis and baby Michael DiGustini.
The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Sitrin's Chestnut House especially Jessica, Theresa, Danielle, and Kayla.
As per Mickey's request no funeral service will be held.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital or a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
