Obituary of Suzanne M. Yingling
Suzanne M. Yingling, age 81, of Rome, passed away peacefully at Upstate University Hospital on December 28, 2023, after a brief illness surrounded by her family.
She was born September 3, 1942, in Rome, the daughter of the late Francis and Florence Belius McKevitt. After graduating from St. Aloysius Academy, she continued her education at the University of Buffalo. Sue married Ronald H. Yingling on June 27, 1964, at St. Paul’s Church in Rome. She prioritized her family and was a homemaker when her children were young. Suzanne later worked for the Carbone Auto Group, retiring after over three decades of service. She was a member of the Church of the Annunciation in Clark Mills.
Suzanne was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She dedicated her life to her family, who were the light of her life. Sue was affectionately called “Nana” by her grandchildren, and she created a special bond with each of them. Sue perfected this role, never missing a ballgame or concert, sending them cards, or taking any opportunity to engage and encourage her grandchildren.
Suzanne had a wonderful sense of humor and took pride in her Irish heritage. She always had a positive outlook and shared supportive words of encouragement. Suzanne enjoyed making her family their favorite dishes for family gatherings. Sue enjoyed a good game of pitch, college sports, and spending time with family. Sue and Ron enjoyed each other’s company and made many memories while boating in Sylvan Beach and traveling. She valued friendship, often visiting with friends and maintaining monthly luncheons with her lifelong girlfriends. Suzanne’s family and friends will sadly miss Suzanne’s kindness and compassion, as she was a bright spot in many people’s lives.
Sue is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ron; a daughter, Debora Yingling of Westmoreland; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jennifer Yingling of Deerfield; a sister Marcia McKevitt of Clinton; a brother, Francis McKevitt of Clinton; grandchildren, Amanda and Scott Roorda, Connor, Daniel, Ryan and Katherine Yingling; and great-grandchildren, Brayden and Hadleigh Roorda; and nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at 10:00 AM at St. Paul’s Church. Per Suzanne’s wishes, there are no public calling hours; the family will greet visitors after the funeral mass.
