Obituary of John R. Melnick
John R. Melnick, age 75, of Taberg, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2024, at home, with his loving family by his side.
John was born in Rome on February 7, 1949, to the late John and Beverly Burke Melnick, and graduated from RFA in 1968. He proudly served his country from 1968-1970 in the U.S. Marine Corps. On October 2, 1999, he was united in marriage to the former Deborah White. John worked at Rome Labs as a telecommunications specialist until his retirement in 2012. He was also a volunteer fireman for the Taberg Fire Department for over 25 years.
John enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons in his spare time. He loved his dogs, and they were always by his side.
John is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Deb; sons, John Paul of Camden, Steve Valvo of Taberg, Jordan Melnick of Rome, and Christopher Narkon of Oneida; several grandchildren; sister, Linda Melnick of Charleston, SC; brother, James Melnick of Ridgeland, SC; mother in law, Jane White of Taberg; brother in law, James White of Taberg; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and several special friends, Alicia Berogan and Daxton Cole of Central Square, Sue, Barry and Stacy Mahl, Rob and Rhonda Bartholomay, and Todd and Pkay Mundell all of Taberg. He was predeceased by his brother, Peter Melnick, father-in-law, Paul White; nephew, Richard Bailey; and infant grandson, Wylie Christopher.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice for their care and compassion and also to the Taberg Fire Department.
John’s funeral with military honors with be held on Thursday at 6 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 6 PM prior to the funeral.
