Obituary of Nancy K. Purhenn
Nancy (Koenig) Purhenn, age 90, of Rome, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2024, at The Commons on St. Anthony in Auburn, NY.
Nancy was born in Rome, on November 1, 1933. She was the beloved daughter of Otto and Dorothy (Husted) Koenig. She was a graduate of RFA. On March 14, 1953, she was united in marriage to LaRue A. Purhenn, Sr. at St. Peter's Church; a blessed union of over 66 years until his passing on December 25, 2019.
In 1958, LaRue and Nancy moved their family to Ithaca, NY. There, Nancy was a homemaker raising their five children. They were founding parishioners of St. Catherine of Sienna Church, where Nancy was an active member. She had many friends in a close-knit neighborhood and loved socializing with her women friends. She enjoyed reading, bowling, swimming, and listening to music.
After their children were grown, LaRue and Nancy returned to Rome, NY to be near Nancy’s mother and dear friends. She especially appreciated the help and care she received from her friends and neighbors Jack, Barbara, and Ellen.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchild.
Nancy is survived by her daughters, Lorrie (Dennis) Arsenault of Lowell, MA, Shellie (Terry) McCabe of Yorktown, VA, Cindie (Michael) Day of Lansing, NY, and Wendie Frances of Littleton, MA; son, LaRue “Skip” Purhenn, Jr. of Syracuse; 13 grandchildren Justin, Amy, Nathan, Katie, Colby, Montana, Kyle, Matthew, Carrie, Nina, Ashley, Joshua, and Kyra; 17 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild and her godson William (Pam) Koenig. She was predeceased by her brothers, Paul and Donald Koenig.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather to honor and remember Nancy at a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 200 N. James Street. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
In accordance with her wishes, there are no calling hours.
