Obituary of Wayne G. Johnson

Wayne G Johnson, age 81, of Taberg, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 17, 2024, at Rome Health.

Wayne was born on October 11, 1942 in Rome, to the late George and Stella Frankow Johnson. He was united in marriage to the former Judith Clark on December 28, 1963; a blessed union of over 56 years until her passing on January 15, 2020. Wayne worked for Wayne Paving and D & H Blacktop for many years as well as several other businesses.

Wayne loved to spend time with his family, fish, and hunt. He also loved to play bass guitar as he was in several country bands over the years.

Wayne is survived by his three children, Dina Johnson of Taberg, Debbie Pope of Rome, and Wayne (Kristine) Johnson of Taberg; cherished grandchildren, Jason, Andy (Amanda), and Dakota (Lexi) Johnson, Jessica (Bill), Nicholas (Sarah), and Brandy (Rick) Pope, Alona (Louis) Schipano, Josh (Krista) Johnson, and Kristy Johnson-Brower; several great grandchildren; one great, great grandson; sisters, Barb Townsend of Rome, and Marilyn Zalatan of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews that he was fond of. He was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Clarence and Ethel Johnson; maternal grandparents, Stephen and Mary Frankow; brother, Mark Johnson; grandson, George Pope III; and son in law, George Pope.

The family would like to thank the staff at Rome Health for the care they gave Wayne while there. Also, special thank you to nurses Jessica Gasparini on 2N and Ashley Luce in the ICU at for the care and comfort they gave to Wayne and the family.

Wayne’s funeral will be held on Monday at 6 PM at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in Lee State Road Cemetery on Tuesday at 11 AM.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4 to 6 PM prior to the funeral.
