Obituary of Elwood Miller
Elwood "Woody” Miller, age 88, of the Town of Lee, passed away unexpectedly on June 25, 2024, at Rome Health.
Woody was born in Jefferson Township, PA on November 22, 1935, to the late Evans and Erma Bahr Miller, and received his associate’s degree from MVCC. He enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and honorably retired after 24 years of service. On July 1, 1978, he was united in marriage to the former Beverly J. Taylor in Rome; a blessed union of over 42 years until her passing on November 3, 2020. Following his military retirement, he continued working as military police for Rome Labs. Woody was a true Patriot; he loved his country.
Woody enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, and camping. He liked to go on adventures with his family and gambling. He looked forward to Tuesday nights at Vernon Downs Casino where he gambled until he closed the place down and Friday nights at the Lake House. He was an instructor for gun club and participated with his children. He had a love of softball and baseball. He coached his children and was an umpire at many games. He was a scout master with his sons and Den leader with his grandchildren. Woody was part of the Naval Sea Cadrette Corp . He joined to be a part of his daughters’ journey! He was a member of the Lee Center Fire Department for several years.
Woody is survived by his daughters, Sandra Miller of Somerset, PA, Tammy (Brian Scully) Pecci of Westernville, Trisha (Michael Sr.) Paolillo of Rome, and Michelle (Jim) Guernsey of Binghamton; sons, Steven (Bre) Miller of VA, and Daniel (Debbie) Miller of Stuartsdraft, VA; grandchildren, Joshua (Becky) Haley, Taylor Haley, Michael Paolillo Jr., Emily Brummel ,Jonathon Brummel, Ryan Brummel, Jeremy Miller, and Amanda Miller; a great grandson who was the light of his life and namesake, Kain C. Elwood Haley; he also has several grandchildren and great grandchildren from out of state. sisters, Martha (Larry) Trimmer, and Beverly (David) Pannunzio; brother, Harry (Ann) Miller; his good friend, David Blair; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Terry Duell; and brothers, George and William Miller.

Woody’s funeral will be held on Monday, at 1 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial with full military honors will be in Maple Flats Cemetery, Cleveland, NY.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 11 AM to 1 PM prior to the funeral.
