Obituary of Clinton E. Hutchins
Clinton “Roscoe” E. Hutchins, age 82, of Holland Patent, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2024, at Rome Health, with his loving family by his side, and was reunited with his wife, Sandy.
Clinton was born in Port Leyden, NY on May 19, 1942, to the late Clair and Bernice Farr Hutchins. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964 and was honorably discharged. On July 16, 1971, he was united in marriage to the most incredible woman, Sandra Gregory until losing her tragically on August 31, 2013. He worked as a truck driver for various companies and in his earlier years owned and operated C&E Auto in Utica.
Clinton loved being with his family. He enjoyed picnics, fishing, camping, and going out to dinner. He was a stubborn man who was strong willed and fought to the end. He was proud of his TRX and liked to collect license plates from around the world. He was a craftsman and collected and built model cars.
Clinton is survived by his children, Richard (Virginia) Hutchins of Rome whom he reassured after Richard’s cancer diagnosis that he would be alright, Carrie (Mike) Craver of Holland Patent, Dawn (Mark) Suppa of Utica, Erin (Cindy Short) Hutchins of Rome, Kevin (Joni) Hutchins of IL., and Shawn (Borzana) Hutchins of Herkimer; his grandchildren who called him papa, Kyle (Angela) Hutchins of CO, Julia, Jenna, and Jaycee Hutchins of Rome, Nathan (Brooke Smith) Craver of Holland Patent, Michael (Brandi Longamore) Craver III of Camden, John Clark of Rome, Joshua, Joseph, and Saveria Suppa all of Utica, Ricky and Daniel, and Dominick and Nicolas; his great grandchildren, Elliot, Jude and Marah; his K-9 companion, Sadie; his special friend, Lisa King; a close family member, Kristen Pratt; special family friends, Jake and Carin Goodemote; and several nieces, nephews, cousins (who referred to him as Norton and/or Snort); and sisters and brothers in law, especially Joanne (Al) Rizzuto.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the VA Clinics of Rome and Syracuse for taking exceptional care of him throughout the years, Dr. Padmanabhan and Nurse Brian Dunn who came to Clinton’s home to care for him, as well as Nurse Judy from Hospice who cared for him in his final days.
