Grace Tagliaferri of Rome, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, September 2, 2024, at the home of her daughter and son-in law in Stittville, NY.

Grace was born in Chicago, Illinois to Louie and Phyllis Di Mezzo. She married Olindo Tagliaferri after he returned from serving in Europe during WWII. They remained married until his death in 2002. She was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and SUNY Cortland. She taught pre first at Dewitt Clinton Elementary school for many years, a career she loved. In addition to teaching, Grace loved to paint. A prolific artist, her works decorate the homes of her many friends and family. In addition to her family, her passion was traveling. Painting many of the places she has traveled including, Egypt, Ireland, Costa Rica, Barbados, Italy, Sicily, Columbia, and Germany.

Olindo and Grace raised four children: Lindy (Lisa) of Falls Church, VA, Mark (Lauren) of Rochester, Gary (deceased) of Perry, NY, and Susan (William) of Stittville. Grace enjoyed residing in the home of her loving daughter Susan and her husband William for the last six years of her life where she was surrounded in the warm embrace of her family.

Grace is also survived by 10 grandchildren: Marie (Diron) Powell, Laurie (Stan) Sampson, Robert (Soo) Tagliaferri, Christine (José) Rael, Sara (Kennedy) Paynter, Jason Tagliaferri (deceased), Todd (JoAnn) Racino, Derek (Eryne) Racino and Bryan (Kelcie) Racino, and Andrew Tagliaferri (deceased). She was fortunate to meet and love 16 great-grandchildren: Kathrine, Tyler, Devlin, Tori, Austin, Tallulah, Talia, Sophia, Juliette, Jack, Terrance, Nicholas, Matthew, Christopher, Kathryn and Claire. She also lived to meet six great-great-grandchildren, Andrew, Magnolia, Madison, Emily, Charlotte, and Luca, all of whom she loved dearly often holding, enjoying their company, and enriching the last years of her long and wonderful life. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, at 11 AM, at the Church of St. John the Baptist, with the Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the church from 10 to 11 AM prior to the mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Jervis Public Library.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
