Obituary of James Paul Rizio, Jr.
James Paul Rizio, Jr., age 43, of Rome, passed away on September 4, 2024, at Strong Memorial Hospital surrounded by family after a brief illness.
He was born July 26, 1981, in Rome, the beloved son of Emily and Jim Rizio. Jim was united in marriage to Kelly Palaka, on September 15, 2007, at St. Paul’s Church. Together they had two wonderful children, Gina and Marco, who were the light of his life. He loved to watch Gina and Marco grow and excel in their sports. He also loved to travel, including many trips to Disneyland and Disney World. He enjoyed playing golf, watching NY Giants football, and attending UCFC soccer games. He loved his home and was very proud of his design of the beautiful backyard he created. He loved to entertain family and friends. He enjoyed cooking and was a great chef. He once won an award for the best spaghetti sauce in Rome.
Jim was a true leader and a caring person who was always ready to lend a helping hand or give assistance to anyone in need. He will truly be missed.
Jim graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1999, and received his Bachelor and Master Degrees from Western Governors University. He started working at Ace Hardware at age 16 and worked his way to become the store Manager.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kelly; children, Gina and Marco; his parents, Jim and Emily Rizio; a sister, Jeni Rizio; his dog Marley; brothers and sisters in-law, Joe and Patti Palaka, Debbie Palaka, and Bill Palaka; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is predeceased by his mother in-law, Eva Marie Palaka; father in-law, Eugene McDonagh; and his maternal and paternal grandparents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM, at St. Paul’s Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, on Tuesday from 4 to 7 PM.
