Carole May Maksymczuk, age 77, passed away on October 24, 2024, at Wynn hospital in Utica.

Born on December 29, 1946, Carole dedicated her life to caring for others, both professionally and personally. Carole was a graduate of Rome Free Academy and the Crouse Hospital School of Nursing. Her career as a Registered Nurse at Rome Memorial Hospital was marked by her unwavering commitment to her patients, specializing as a surgical nurse until her retirement.

Known for her caring, loving, and uplifting personality, Carole never spoke negatively about anyone and always sought the redeeming qualities in others. Her unselfish devotion to her friends and family made her a pillar of support, always ready to provide care or comfort. She possessed a contagious laughter and an upbeat spirit that brightened the lives of those around her.

An avid reader and traveler, Carole cherished the memories of visiting her mother's homeland of Australia with John and her parents, where Carole had spent several years of her childhood. She was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she found spiritual solace and community. Carole's life was a testament to the power of kindness and the enduring strength of familial and friendly bonds. Her legacy of love and laughter will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.

Carole held a deep connection with her parents, F. Robert and Thyra Flanders, who preceded her in death, along with her nephew, Christopher Flanders. Carole's life was enriched by her beloved husband and life partner for 54 years, John Maksymczuk, who brought laughter and love into her days. She is also survived by her brothers, Rob and Kathy Flanders of Vestal, NY, and Steve and Jacque Flanders of Bridgeport, NY; sister-in-law, Carol and James Salmon of Lee; sister-in-law, Cindy Flanders of Westernville; and her niece and nephews, Mary Beth (Clayton) Bartholme, Adrian Flanders, Robert Flanders, James (Christine) Flanders, Eric (Marley) Flanders and (Aubrey) Flanders.

Carole’s funeral will be held on Friday at 2 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 12 Noon to 2 PM prior to the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Carole’s favorite charity: St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
