Obituary of Marie R. Switzer
Marie R. Switzer, age 73, of Rome, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 5th, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Marie was born in Watertown on March 7th, 1951 to the late Lawrence and Phyllis Puccia, and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Ogdensburg. On July 10th, 1971, she was united in marriage to Jerry Switzer in Ogdensburg. Marie worked as a stock broker secretary at Tucker Anthony and afterwards, the CNY DDSO until her retirement.
Marie enjoyed gardening, walking with her husband, and watching the birds (especially her cardinals), reading, shopping, craft fairs, and brunch with her girls. Her baking, especially Christmas cookies, was a special gift that she willingly shared with those that touched her (including her favorite people at the grocery store and pizza shop).
Her greatest treasures were her grandchildren and she enjoyed sleepovers, cheering them on at their sporting events, and watching them in plays and musicals. She was the ultimate "baseball mom" having spent decades on the bleachers. Her family was the center of her life.
Marie is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Jerry; her daughter, Mikki (Kevin) Taylor of Rome; her son, Jerry Switzer of Rome; her daughter-in-law Kim Switzer of Rochester; her grandchildren, Monica Taylor, Derek Switzer, Zak Taylor, and Jake Switzer; her sisters, Rose (Dave) Missert, and Phyllis (Greg) Wall; her brothers, Larry (Val) Puccia, and Tony (Kerin) Puccia; her bonus son, Len Platt; three Switzer brother-in- laws; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her best friends, Rose and Phyllis; Brandi McCanney; the staff at Hospice and the staff at Upstate Cancer Center in Verona for their care, compassion, and friendship shown to Marie and her family.
Marie's funeral will be held on Wednesday, at 6 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 6 PM prior to the funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Marie's memory to Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. 4277 Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford NY 13413.
