Obituary of Barry James Allen
Barry J. Allen, age 74, of Blossvale, passed away on Saturday, December 7th, 2024, at the Wynn Hospital.
Barry was born on June 30, 1950, in Rome, to the late Leonard and Irene Zrowka Allen and graduated from VVS. Barry proudly served his country in the United States Navy, embracing the values of honor, courage, and commitment. After completing his military service, he dedicated much of his career to working as a groundskeeper at Griffiss Air Force Base. On August 6, 1988, he was united in marriage to the former Katherine "Kathy" Bierstine.
Barry enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, and in his earlier years, racing cars. He was a master wood carver, known for his skill and precision in shaping wood into beautiful, functional pieces. Over the years, he created a vast collection of items and elaborate walking sticks. Each piece had its own unique story, a reflection of his meticulous attention to detail and his deep respect for the natural beauty of the material.
Barry is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; daughters, Jessica "Jessie" Allen, and Amy Alsheimer both of Marcy; grandchildren, Christopher and Alexia Wilson both of Blossvale; sister, Patricia Allen, sister and Brother-in-laws Gary and Susan Fassett, Walter and Barbara Bartynski; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends may gather for a celebration of life at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, on Tuesday, December 17th, 2024, from 2 to 4 PM. Military honors provided by the U.S. Navy will commence at 4 PM.
