Beverly Ann Hoehn
Rome, New York
Beverly A. Hoehn, 88, of Rome, passed away on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at home, after a long, courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Beverly was born on August 18, 1927 in Rome, a daughter of the late G. Raymond and Justina (Herbst) Smith. She was a 1945 graduate of the Academy of Holy Names in Rome and a 1949 graduate of Oswego Teacher's College. Beverly married the love of her life, Lawrence Hoehn, on February 14, 1953 at St. Peter's Church in Rome. Mr. Hoehn passed away in 1997.
Beverly was a teacher in the Holland Patent and Rome School districts in the 1950's and the early 1960's, later staying home to raise her family. Most of all, she enjoyed her grandchildren and being the center of activity for all of the holidays and family events. She always enjoyed reading, researching the family tree, watching baseball starting in the 1930's by going to the Rome Colonels' games and later becoming an avid NY Yankees fan, and was a volunteer at Jervis Library for many years.
Beverly is survived by her daughter, three sons, and their spouses, Kathleen (Aaron) Siddall, Kevin (Barbara) Hoehn, Brian (Smosaun) Hoehn, and Thomas (Paula) Hoehn; grandchildren and their spouses, Tracy Millner, Carey (Greg) Bor, Cathy, Eric (Megan), Kelly, Adam (Anne), Luke (Michelle), Kyle, Taylor and Reed Hoehn; great grandchildren, Ashley and Jasmine Millner, and Kendra and Brooklyn Bor. She was predeceased by an infant brother and a granddaughter, Wendy Williams.
Funeral services will be held at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, on Thursday at 12:15 PM, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter's Church at 1 PM, with the Rev. Philip A. Hearn officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 11 AM to 12 PM, prior to the funeral services.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Kathleen and Aaron, and to Beverly's in-home caregivers, Manychanh Nouvong, Josie Broughton, and Tammy Smith who contributed greatly in helping to make Beverly's last years as comfortable as possible, and to Dr. Busch and the staff at Tri-County Medical for their care and support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Mary's/St' Peter's Memorial Fund, Jervis Library, or the Rome Historical Society.
