Obituary of Francis A. Vasho

Francis A. Vasho Francis A. Vasho, age 90, of Rome, passed away May 15, 2016, at Rome Memorial Hospital. He was born July 14, 1925, in Rome, the son of the late Francis and Elena Falvo Vasho, and graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1944. Francis was united in marriage to the former Karen J. Lyng, in June 1983, in Rome. He at one time worked for the former Best Ice Cream Company, delivering blocks of ice to homes still using iceboxes for refrigeration. He later worked in electronics at the former RADC at Griffiss Air Force Base. Francis is survived by his loving wife, Karen; a sister in law, Merry E. Lyng of Albany; a brother in law, Scott Lyng of Utica; nieces and nephews, Frances and Jim Decker, Lorraine Baldwin, Barbara and Henry Swistak and Paula and Greg Tiner; and several great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Vasho Baldwin. The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff on the 6th Floor at Bethany Gardens for their care, compassion and friendship extended to Francis the past few years. The funeral service will be held Friday at 12:30 PM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home, Friday from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, prior to the funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany Gardens Activities Fund.
