Obituary of Ethel M. Lyons

Ethel McManus Lyons, age 97, passed away on August 3, 2016, at home in Clinton, after a long illness. She was born in New York City, on February 23, 1919, a daughter of the late Francis Joseph and Ethel McCall McManus. She graduated from the Academy of Holy Names, class of 1937. Her first husband, Charles Melton Hodierne, passed away in 1948, and she later married William F. Lyons, who passed away in 1968. Ethel is survived by her daughter, Ethel (Walter) Siffringer and grandson, Eric Siffringer of Clinton, NY; granddaughter Maureen and Tom Quackenbush of Paris, NY; great granddaughters, Laura and Keith DeStefanis of Holland Patent, NY and Christy and Tim Abend of Huntsville, AL; and two great great granddaughters, Erica and Halie Abend. She also leaves very special cousins, Thomas and Carrie Belcher of Hendersonville, NC. Ethel retired from Rome Developmental Center in 1983, after 34 years in business administration. She had lived in Florida and North Carolina before returning to New York in 2007. The family would like to thank Sharon, her special caregiver for the past 2 years, the VNA staff, Hospice nurses, and Dr. Kandiah. Also, to Julie, Joyce and Connie, who took care of her the past 6 weeks. Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Rome, NY. There are no calling hours. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street.
