Bernard "Bernie" Meyers, 75, a retired Rome Fire Department Lieutenant, passed away October 24, 2016. He was born September 10, 1941, in Rome, a son of the late Enoch and Agnes Urtz Meyers, and graduated from West Leyden High School and Utica School of Commerce. Bernie proudly served in the United States Air Force and was a member of the Lee American Legion, Post # 1794, Lee Center. Bernie was an active outdoorsman. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed hiking and snowshoeing. Bernie is survived by a son, Jeffrey Meyers of Albany; two sisters and a brother in law, Patricia Turner of Lee Center, and Kathleen and James Lindsay of Delmar; three brothers, Paul Meyers of Schenectady, Robert Meyers of Ava, and Tom Meyers of Lee Center; three sisters in law, Agnes, Marlene and Maxine Meyers; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister and five brothers, Donald Meyers, Carol Sellman, James Meyers, Allan Meyers, Arnold Meyers and Charles Meyers; and three sisters in law, Amelia, Carol and Jane Meyers. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service on Monday at 11:00 AM, at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
