John F. Buczek, age 86, former Town of Floyd Supervisor, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2017, with his family by his side. He was born July 16, 1930, in the Town of Floyd, one of 13 children of the late Frank and Anna Karcz Buczek. He spent his childhood working on the family farm and graduated from Holland patent Central School in 1949. John was united in marriage to the former Katherine Ringrose, on June 2, 1956, in the Church of the Transfiguration; she died September 7, 2016. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1950-54, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He worked at Rome Strip Steel and retired as Supervisor of Receiving and Shipping after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Church of the Transfiguration, where he formerly served as Usher, Paris Council President and Eucharistic Minister. John was a member of the United Polka League and enjoyed many years of dancing with his wife, Kathy and their many dear friends. John was very active in his community and served the Town of Floyd for over 33 years. He served as Trailer Inspector, Town Councilman, Town Water Superintendent, Town of Floyd Budget Officer and Town Supervisor for several years, retiring in 2015. He also was a former member of the Floyd Volunteer Fire Department. John received many Town of Floyd awards, including, the Lt. Colonel Stephen Moulton Citizen of the Decade Award, Fire Department Parade Grand Marshal Award, Floyd Grange Community Citizen Award, Floyd Raiders Drum and Bugle Corps Award, Town of Floyd All-Wars Honor Roll Award and the Oneida County Office for the Aging Certificate of Recognition Award. John is survived by his sons and daughters in law, John and Kim Buczek of Vernon, Richard and Carol Buczek of Floyd; a daughter and son in law, Marcia and Brian McCabe of Floyd; grandchildren, Richard Buczek, Michael Buczek, Kaylee (John) Destito, Michelle Buczek and fiancé, Ryan Mosack and Jonathan McCabe; a sister, Mary Malinowski; brothers and sisters in law, Joseph Buczek, Teddy and Glenda Buczek, Stanley and Beverly Buczek, Eugene and Sue Buczek, Richard Buczek, Mike and Sandy Buczek and Carl and Linda Buczek; a sister in law, Evelyn Buczek; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, James and a daughter, Christina; his sister, Helen Bunal; and brothers, Casimir, Walter and Edward Buczek. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM from the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, and a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Robert L. Kelly at 11:00 AM at the Church of the Transfiguration. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Peter's Cemetery.
