Sorry to hear of Mr. Straneys passing. I was one of the lucky ones that was able to listen to him and his classroom full of students. As they practiced, their beautiful music echoed down the halls on a daily basis . You may remember me, Mrs.Mathis secretary. He was a wonderful teacher and good friend. On occasion your parents and I would have coffee at a few of the local places at the bottom of the hill. He always had that wonderful smile like he did all those days at school. Sympathy to your Family at this sad time.

My dearest friend, teacher, brother, I have known you most of my life. You have taught me so much about music, and about life. It was with great joy, just a few years ago, to work with you as a fellow musician and record many of your masterful compositions. There are simply no words to describe how you have been such a part of my life. You and Patricia have treated me as family, and you will live on forever in my heart. Rest well, dear ones......

To the family, I don't know if any of you will remember me but I was one of those aspiring musicians that Mr. Straney taught at West Leyden Elementary. This was back in the late 1960's. We used to travel every year to the state fair and perform. We also had the dance band where I had a solo on my tenor saxophone. I still have the last concert we performed on the old reel to reel player. Mr. Straney was very gifted and wrote arrangements for our band to play . I have often thought of both him and his wife because they were also friends of my parents who worked at the school too. Thinking back, we even sewed our dresses/pantsuits to wear at the concerts. I had mine for years. It was purple with bell bottoms. Enough about the good olé days. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I have very fond memories of your dad and mom.
