Obituary of Mary Jo Gruhlkey

Mary Jo (Iselo) Gruhlkey, age 62, of Astoria, OR, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2017, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Mary Jo was born in Rome on December 21, 1954 to Peter and Amelia Parry Iselo. She graduated from Holland Patent High School in 1973. She then moved to Oregon where she attended Oregon State University to pursue a career in health and fitness. While attending Oregon State, she played softball with the Oregon Beavers. She was united in marriage to Milton Gruhlkey. Mary Jo worked for Clatsop Community College as a fitness instructor for 29 years, as a fitness instructor for Columbia Fitness/Fitness 1440 for 15 years, and as a senior fitness instructor for Clatsop Care Centers for 16 years. Mary Jo was a risk-taker who loved to have fun. She was a free spirit and very energetic. While growing up, she played many games of sandlot baseball with her brothers and cousins, many times out running the boys. She loved her Irish Setters, her horses, and riding her Harley Davidson motorcycles. Mary Jo is survived by her husband, Milton of Astoria, OR; her three sons, Lucas, Joey (Ashley), and Peter all of Astoria, OR; her mother, Amelia Iselo of Floyd; three brothers and two sisters in law, Mark Iselo of Bradenton, FL, Paul and Dorothea Iselo of Floyd, and Peter and Christine Iselo of East Stroudsburg, PA; nephews, Nicholas (Debra) Iselo, John Iselo, and Peter Jacob Iselo; a niece, Danielle Wyman; aunts and uncles, Virginia Capponi, Joe and Delores Parry, Tom and Pat Parry, Aggie McCormick, and Lester Morat; many cousins, including her special cousin, Mary Angela Morrisroe; and her close friends, JoAnn and Al Rizzuto. She was predeceased by her father, Peter. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of St. John the Baptist on Saturday at 11 AM, with Rev. Paul F. Angelicchio officiating.
