Julia M. Lauber of Greer, South Carolina, (formerly of Rome, NY) passed away Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Brushy Creek Rehabilitation facility in Greer, SC, after an extended illness. Julia was born in Rome, NY, on July 5, 1932, the daughter of George and Mary (Smith) Alder. She attended Rome schools and graduated from West Branch High School. She received her nursing degree from Marcy State Hospital. Julia married Kurt S. Lauber on July 11, 1953 - a union of 39 years. Together they traveled extensively in the US and Europe. Throughout her life she used her nursing skills as the ultimate caregiver for family and friends. She enjoyed entertaining on a large scale with her culinary creations. Julia was an ardent student of the Bible and loved sharing her Bible-based hope in God's Kingdom. She was a member of the East Greenville Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She is survived by her daughter Judith (Doug) Delaney, Bethel, Maine; sons David (Melanie) and Karl (Elizabeth) Lauber, Greer, SC; granddaughters Vanessa and Molly Lauber; sisters Sarah Rebe, Marie Grems Landi, Grace Cogswell and brother Thomas Alder; 32 nieces and nephews and many dear friends both in Rome and Greer. Julia was predeceased by her husband, Kurt, in December 1992; sisters Ida Whipple, Bertha Wyman; brothers George Alder Jr., Howard Alder and John Alder. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 19th at 1:00 pm at the Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut St., Rome, NY.
