James "Jim" F. Wheeler II, age 55, of Rome, passed away November 6, 2018.
He was born January 22, 1963, in Rome, the son of the late James F. and Nancy Isom Wheeler. He graduated from Rome Catholic High School and attended MVCC before earning a liberal arts degree from Adirondack CC. He worked for many years as an insurance investigator for State Farm Insurance. He was a member of St. Mary's/St. Peter's Parish. Jim also served as a Sgt. in the US Army for ten years. He was a veteran of Operation Desert Shield and Storm; his last posting was as a cardiology specialist in Frankfurt, Germany.
Jim loved to read, especially epic fantasies and science fiction. He also became an avid collector of old and classic comic books.
Jim is survived by two sisters and brothers in law, Lisa and Richard Pimpinella of Rome, and Holly Wheeler and Jason Marino of Rochester; and beloved niece and nephews, Ashley and Tom Triffo, and Brennan and Nicholas Pimpinella. He had nieces and nephews who were very important to him: his sister Holly's step children, Matthew and Allison Marino; and his brother-in-law Richard's great nieces and nephews: Tiana, Nina, Marc, and Isabella Palmer all of whom called him "Uncle Jim."
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Philip A. Hearn, will be held Monday at 10:30 AM at St. Peter's Church; with Military Honors also being presented.
Relatives and friends may call at Barry Funeral Home, 807 W. Chestnut Street, Sunday, from 2 to 4 PM.
